New Book Celebrates Kearney's World Theatre

These days, it’s rare for a community to come together for a single cause—but that’s exactly what’s happening in Kearney with the publication of Kearney’s World Theatre, a new pictorial history book covering the history of the iconic movie theater from 1927 to today.
Once a main hub in the community, the theater suffered due to a changing economic and entertainment landscape. It closed operations in 2008. Now, there’s a movement afoot to bring the World Theatre back to its former glory. The book, Kearney’s World Theatre, available June 13, could be an important turning point in its revitalization—raising both awareness and funding.
Many of the images in the book were donated from personal photograph collections in an effort to help preserve the beloved theater. Additionally, half the author royalties will go directly to the World Theatre Foundation, whose mission is to save the theater.
“I hope that after reading this book people who visit the World Theatre will be conscious of the rich and varied personal stories that have formulated there since 1927,” says author Keith Terry. Terry hopes to see the theater thrive again.
Kearney’s World Theatre will be available June 13, 2011 at area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, and through Arcadia Publishing at (888) 313-2665 or www.arcadiapublishing.com.
